Steps for using Gimp (Mac) to make a negative for cyanotypes.

Gimp is a downloadable freeware software that

has many of the same functions as Photoshop. You can find it at  http://www.gimp.org/

  1.  File > open
  2. Crop tool > double click and drag the corners to make your selection
  3. Image > crop to selection
  4. Image > Print Size > Select width and when you click on the height it will automatically set.
  5. Colors > levels   (to adjust contrast)
  6. Image > mode > grayscale
  7. Image > transform > flip horizontally
  8. Color>Invert
  9. Filter > Distort > Newsprint  (you may have to do some trial and error to find the right setting–keep input and output settings the same)
  10. File > Print with Gutenprint /Or save as a jpg and print
  11. Select the highlighted areas in in the screen shots
  12. Use Original Image Size (lower right corner of menu)
  13. Center: Both
  14. Printer setup > Printer queue >choose your printer in the drop down menu >Okay > Print
